DECAY

Dental caries is a multifactorial disease involving an interaction between the teeth, saliva and oral micro biota as individual factors and diet itself as an external factor. Furthermore, they can also be genetic, biological, behavioral factors, etc…

Tooth decay is a form of infection in which specific bacteria accumulate on the enamel surface, where they produce acid products demineralizing the tooth surface and disintegrate. Once damage has occurred in the enamel, the process progresses to innermost parts of the tooth through the dentine to the pulp. If the process is not stopped, the tooth can be completely destroyed. The progress of decay can be disrupted mechanically removing the infected tooth structure and replacing it with a suitable synthetic material to restore the normal shape and function of the tooth.

If cavities are left untreated, the process eventually penetrates through the root canals beyond the tooth, to the soft tissue, where he will begin a painful inflammatory reaction.

It is one of the most common oral diseases worldwide. It usually occurs in children and young adults, although it can really affect anyone, significantly impairing their quality of life.
