Dental Health from birth (2-24 months)

The vast majority of pediatric dentists agree that regular dental care should begin by one year of age with at least two annual reviews. It is very important to encourage our children from an early age to acquire good oral care habits in order to prevent tooth decay in childhood. Below we offer some tips for good oral care during different stages of growth of the child.

First stage (2-24 months)

During the first six months of age is recommended to clean your infant’s gums after meals and at bedtime with a wet gauze or brush teeth with soft padded child head. This should be carried out to prevent the accumulation of plaque.

Between 6 and 12 months old the first teeth appear and the time of first dental checkup with the pediatrician. Baby teeth should be brushed twice a day between one and two minutes with a soft bristle brush.

At the age of two have already appeared the vast majority of the teeth and the child learns to rinse his mouth. At this point it is appropriate brushing with toothpaste the size of a pea, as recommended by your pediatrician or dentist. At this age, examinations and cleanings are recommended every six months.

Thumb sucking is considered normal and harmless before two years, but after this age parents should discourage this practice to avoid future conflicts as the development of crooked teeth and other problems related to the bite.
